چکیده

For a small buffer queueing system fed by a large class of traffic processes we show that the single server queue and the associated sample paths behave as if fed by marked Poisson traffic; in a large deviations limit, for a system fed by many flows. The timescale upon which events occur in this setting tends to zero, hence we study a limit on the log moment generating function as time tends to zero. Additionally, we prove the associated rate function depends only on the mean arrival rate and the moment generating function of the size of each arrival. These results are useful in estimating drop probabilities while studying the effect of small buffers on communication protocols, for example, the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).

Poisson process approximation for dependent superposition of point processes

Although the study of weak convergence of superpositions of point processes to the Poisson process dates back to the work of Grigelionis in 1963, it was only recently that Schuhmacher [Stochastic Process. Appl. 115 (2005) 1819–1837] obtained error bounds for the weak convergence. Schuhmacher considered dependent superposition, truncated the individual point processes to 0–1 point processes and ...

Point Dose Measurement for Verification of Treatment Planning System using an Indigenous Heterogeneous Pelvis Phantom for Clarkson, Convolution, Superposition, and Fast Superposition Algorithms

Background: Nowadays, advanced radiotherapy equipment includes algorithms to calculate dose. The verification of the calculated doses is important to achieve accurate results. Mostly homogeneous dosimetric phantoms are available commercially which do not mimic the actual patient anatomy; therefore, an indigenous heterogeneous pelvic phantom mimicking actual human pelvic region has been used to ...

A Poisson Limit for Buffer Overflow Probabilities

A key criterion in the design of high-speed networks is the probability that the buffer content exceeds a given threshold. We consider n independent identical traffic sources modelled as point processes, which are fed into a link with speed proportional to n. Under fairly general assumptions on the input processes we show that the steady state probability of the buffer content exceeding a thres...

Poisson superposition processes

Superposition is a mapping on point configurations that sends the n-tuple (x1, . . . , xn) ∈ X into the n-point configuration {x1, . . . , xn} ⊂ X , counted with multiplicity. It is an additive set operation such the superposition of a k-point configuration in X is a kn-point configuration in X . A Poisson superposition process is the superposition in X of a Poisson process in the space of fini...
